Hi, im in need of replacing my rear derailer and need some help.

here is a link to my bike and components http://thecyclehub.net/review-specialized-allez-2013/

i was looking at this derailer and need to know if it would fit.

http://www.evanscycles.com/products/shi ... 7#features

i also could do with a new chainset or just some chainrings, as cheap as possible would be great.

Thanks.

Yes it should work. Claris is the replacement for 2300 and are both 8 speed. Not that rear mechs have a 'speed' as such.

Thank you for the fast reply
  • Not that rear mechs have a 'speed' as such.

They do. Do you not know how indexing works? Different mechs have different pull ratios, according to the sprocket pitch of the cassette/freewheel. There is some crossover between speeds, and friction shifters should work with anything, but to imply that you can buy any derailleur and it will work is poor advice indeed.

Is he correct in saying this one will fit though?
  • He is. Reading back over that post, it comes over much harsher than I had intended. What you need to know is that you need a Shimano 8 speed rear mech on a Shimano 8 speed transmission.

    Have a read of this:
