First Build: On-One Inbred 26er

Hi All,

After the bottom bracket fiasco, I finally got the threads chased so I could start my first ever build! Learnt a lot from building this bike.

Spec:

Frame: On-One Inbred 26er (Taichung Green)
Fork: Fox Float F120 RLC Kashima 1/18th 15mm thru bolt.
Wheels: Superstar AMX (Rear - 135x10mm, Front - 15mm thru bolt).
Brakes: Clarks M2 (160mm rotors front and back).
Tyres: Front - Maxxis High Roller 2 2.3, Rear - Maxxis Ardent 2.25
Bar: On-One Oversized riser bar.
Stem: On-One Hot Box Stem 70mm
Headset: FSA Orbit MX
Saddle: Charge Spoon (Black & Green)
Grips: ODI Ruffian - Green
Crank: Shimano Zee/XT Bottom Bracket
Pedals: Nukeproof Electron Evo
Shifter: Shimano XT
Chainring: Blackspire 32T Narrow/Wide

Would love to hear any constructive criticism, or any areas I could improve over time

Inbreds are good solid frames I have one in Maroon. They arent the most forgiving of frames if you have a bad back be prepared for some aches but they do handle very well.

It'll be interesting to see what it feels like compared to the Hoodoo. Feel like I have to be delicate with it as it's so new

I ran out of money

For £40 front and back, they ain't half bad. In the top 5 in What Mountain Bike. One of the things I'll upgrade eventually. I was originally speccing M615 Deore items, but funds shriveled.

This looks like a great build, fair play for running a lower spec brake due to budget constraints. How are they?

Went out on the bike for the firs time today. To be honest, the brakes are pretty great, especially for what they cost!

I'm going to upgrade the front rotor at least to a 180mm, but they bite well and have good modulation. Miles better than the Tektro Gemini I have on the Voodoo. The whole bike feels leagues ahead

I'll update when I make more purchases.

Not sure I'm a fan of the colour scheme (green components with the Orange fork logo) and I think I'd have gone lighter on the rear mech, otherwise a nicely balanced build, hope you enjoy it!

Cheers for the input Rookie.

I may change the fork decals eventually (maybe next service). I'm a complete novice when it comes to components and the Zee is like a revelation compared to the Alivio on my Hoodoo.

I can't imagine how good the mechs are further up the food chain!

Really, if you can notice a few grams (eg 12g more compared to XT) at the rear mech when riding a bike, i would bevery, very, very, very, very, very surprised

Once you get to Shimano Deore the performance doesnt really change the mechs just get a bit lighter. Zee is as good as XT in my opinion.

I'm already looking at getting similar graphics, but with a green theme now

One problem I've ran into. One of the threads in the fork (post mount) has started to thread. I've read that people have overcome this with longer bolts to pick thread up further down, and some people have used helicoil kits.

It's holding for now, but something that needs tackling eventually.

Use a longer bolt, also use some liquid threadlock as this helps support any damaged thread and will stay in there when you remove the bolt.

Add threadlock, screw in bolt and just nip it up, wait 24 hours then tighten it - sorted.

Have been considering this frame myself. It doesn't look very green in those photos, is it noticeable up close or does it just look black? My forks are orange so not sure if it would be a nice contrast or really clash.

When I ordered it, I thought it would be bright green. It's a very dark metallic. Looks black in low light and gets brighter in the sun. Quite a nice, understated colour really.

be very careful if the bolt is too long and you bottom it out you will pull the threads right out. Medium strength Loctite like 243 should hold it till you can get it Helicoiled.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'll be careful when I try it. I have put some loctite on the existing bolt (the blue stick one).

Have you weighed it yet? Would be interested to know what it is. Hoping to order my inbred frame tonight and start building up a similar spec. I also have the Clarke m2 brakes waiting to go on, they may not be the best but they are certainly the best value if the reviews are anything to go by.

I was just saying to the wife last night that I'm going to order some scales to weigh it next month

It feels lighter than my Voodoo though (although I just converted to single speed).

The pedals don't looks as bright in the flesh, think it just may be the photo. A bit of colour coordinating needs to be done eventually

The same length XT is more than 12g lighter, the PB comparison used a long cage XT, still not huge but it all adds up.

The Voodoo frame is quiet heavy, circa 2.15Kg so the better parts on the Inbred will easily offset the circa 350g penalty of the frame, especially with the circa 350g saving of running 1x gearing.

A lighter mech would still not be noticeable, and you didnt initially say you would use lighter other bits as well.

Its a given that lighter everything would make a difference.

I have a very similar build, same frame, slx and xt throughout, 1x10 and mine come in at 12kg!

Hmm, interesting TV

I'll really have to get a scale next month. I'm still losing weight myself, so I think a little bit of weight saving on the bike will be lost on me at this point. Something to look at in the future though. I'm bang on 17st now (managed to lose a stone in just under a month).

Might stick a thread up for the Voodoo too (started turning into a single speed commuter).

nice build, the frame doesn't look any green as I see it :?
Guys a lighter wheel and tire combo would save much more weight than a rear mech and be noticeable too!!!

Wheels will probably get upgraded eventually (like most things) but I'm liking the tyre combo so far.

The frame colour is hard to capture on camera. It only really comes out in sunight (like a dark metallic green). Similar to the Zee cranks really, but they have a gold shine to them.

Hey All,

Updated pic coming. Building parts up on this to hopefully swap to an FS frame maybe near Christmas. Just purchased Nukeproof Warhead 50mm stem and a Nukeproof Sam Hill Signature Bar (760mm).

Wanted a wider bar at a decent price and this seemed to fit the bill
