Car lacquer on carbon?

Hi all,
My mates got a couple of stone chips on the underside of his down tube, one of them is quite deep but doesn't look to serious, would it be ok to touch up with a little dab of aerosol car lacquer or clear nail varnish? He just wants to seal it to stop it getting any worse (even though it probably won't get any worse). I just thought I'd check it out for him first as I know some things can damage carbon fibre.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers. Gaz

Stick 'helicopter' tape on the underside of the tube, otherwise have a look through here:
