Garmin upload problems

In the absence of anywhere else obvious to put the thread I'll try here.
I've recently bought a new computer tower. (old skool Grandad)
Previously my Garmin unit connected to Strava through Garmin Express.
Everything uploaded automatically then the unit cleared.
Happy days.
Now with the new computer I've downloaded all things Garmin inc Express.
Everything seems fine, but it just won't sync with Strava, and will only say:-
'unable to sync please try again'.
I'm such a luddite (bear that in mind when answering) I can't help thinking there's a box somewhere left unchecked, or something equally basic.
But I'll be jiggered if I can find anything wrong.
Any help would be appreciated, just remember you are talking to a moron!!

If it is a problem transferring over to Strava automatically. Go to your settings, click on disconnect next to the Garmin Express icon and then try entering your details again.
I don't really use Garmin since Strava took over my life, but having reconnected my base unit I got:-
'There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect' view error.
'Sorry we couldn't sync your device. Please try again'. retry.
Uploading to Garmin Connect.
As said nothing is going across to Strava either.
As said it all worked fine and dandy until I changed the computer.
Now everything still seems to work fine, but it's as if they've had a massive row and nothing will 'talk' to anything else.
It's all gone a bit North Korea - South Korea - China - America, or is that overstating it?
As I only use strava I have not bothered to download any garmin software.
In strava click download activity, icon in top right. Select download from file, then browse. This accesses my 800 like a memory stick. Find the folder with your ride in (activities?) Then select and download. Multiple rides can be done together if like me you cannot be bothered to download after every ride.
I do this and it has never failed me, no messing with the very flaky garmin express or other tiresome garmin programs.
