Rockshoc dropper seat woes

Hello, my dropper seat has been working well for sometime, but now when the remote button is pressed the seat still drops and returns to it's upright position. When I put my weight onto the seat it sinks down 1/4. Is it broken or would a bleeding of the fluid sort this problem out.

Many thanks.

Updrade RockShox dropper seat post.
Went tubeless DIY style using a 20" BMX tube. Lasting well.

  • Have you checked the air pressure? should be 250psi .
  • Slow drop and slow return usually means it needs a bleed.

Normal drop and slow return and dropping while seated can be air pressure but also can be a fault.

If the drop and return are normal and the post returns back up if you stand up off the saddle then sounds like it is faulty and needs to go back to SRAM for repair. Slow drop and slow return usually means it needs a bleed.

    Bugger!
It has slow drop & slow return coupled with, 0 psi when I check before starting this thread. I pressurised the post to 250 psi and it made no change.

So now the unit is slow to drop and return regardless of the speed setting and the seat drops when sat on but returns up when I stand up. Looks like it may need to go back to sram, or can I service this problem myself if it turn out not to be fixed when I get the bleed kit.

Seems like a common problem from previous threads. Back to the dealer, they faff for a week, and send a new one.

I can't remember when I brought this dropper, but it over a year old will they still change it?

Well I'll need to track down the date I brought it, in the mean time I've purchased a rockshox bleed kit to cover the obvious.

Mine was doing the same, 5 mins to bleed the remote and it was back to normal.

Hopefully yours has just been a combination of lack of pressure and air in the oil.

Cheers, I've removed the unit from the bike and have brought it into the house to warm up. When I checked the air pressure it was at 0psi. I pumped it up to 120psi and then watched the pressure fall away to 0psi on the pump gauge. I think that I've got two problems going on here.

The air pressure tube, is this there to return the seat back up to it's normal ride height?

I've bled the hydraulic system and there is no change to the operation of the seat. Coupled with the air tube inside the dropper post will not hold any pressure. I think that this seat post is toasted. Problem is I can't be 100% sure of where I brought this item. I have emails & receipts for my forks, wheels and other items but not my seat post. Arrrruuuugghhhh!

I know I got it after my forks so it's less than 2 years old, which is a slight bonus.

Quick update, PlanetX are ace and confirmed purchase details. They've received it and forwarded it on to Sram agent.

Quick update, (as I hate threads that have no end) Sram have confirmed that the seat post has failed & have issued release for a new one. Problem is that there aren't any in the uk until the end of January :( Good news is it will have a 2 year warranty as it's a new item :)

At last I have a replacement Rockshox dropper seat post again. I am really pleased, as this one turned up with the two syringes labelled as Rockshox & a tub of oil, plus a torque tool spares kit.
