Black or Gumwall on my deep sections

Hi,
I have a Scott Foil with 46mm Carbon Clinchers.
I cant decide on whether to put Gumwalls on or solid black.
Thoughts?

(yes, i know steerer needs sorting)

    If gum walk makes you ride faster then go with that....

    does it really matter what it looks like?
    The bike can be the best looking one in the world but if you can't ride it and enjoy it what's the point !
    When i die I just hope the wife doesn't sell my stuff for what I told her I paid for it other wise someone will be getting a mega deal!!!

    Gumwall, looks more pro.

    (also the frame looks too small... Saddle is miles back and lots of spacers on the steerer.)

    Seat/seat post look fine - agree re spacers though. Also agree re gum wall.

    Saddle looks fine. Looks clamped in the middle with very little offset.

    Agree with spacers but comfy is comfy (tho do wonder why an aero frame when you sit upright).

    On this bike I prefer the look of the black walls. Gumwall is too noisy with all the stuff going on with the frame too.

    matt-h, I'm glad you posted this, as I've ordered the same 46mm Superstar wheels and have the same frame as you. Any initial impressions of the wheels yet?

    Personally, I like the gumwalls, but they're going to get dirty and nigh-on impossible to clean. A daylight picture would be better.

    I do love these very talented armchair bike fitters who can tell a bike is the wrong size just by looking at one.

    I prefer the black. Goes better with the frame in my view.

    I twice bought tan walled tyres,

    1) Corsa SC or something... first section of cobbles, nothing special really, 20 metres long and I almost removed the sidewall... tyre pretty much good for the bin...

    2) I then bought some Challenge strada, sold them a few miles later to a fellow rider on here, who also managed to rip the sidewall off... never again

    Indeed. Besides, saddle set back will be the same (if it's correct) no matter what the frame size, it'll just have less post showing if a bigger frame...

    I prefer the black too even though on my bike I prefer natural.

    Gumwalls!

    Though remember never to ride in the wet and expect them to look the same again. My Masters are now more of a greywall tyre.

    black, no question. Gumwalls only belong on retro bikes or specialist Paris Roubaix tubs.

    Should have gone for tubular rims if those are cheap end Chinese 'carbon' clincher rims...

    With regards to the comments on the saddle fore/aft position; Scott Foils from size 52 downwards are supplied with an inline seatpost, with no layback. This means that the saddle position tends to look more rearward than normal. The saddle postion on my 49cm Foil looks pretty much the same and it fits me just fine.

    I have the same frame and put tan walls on it, looked awful! Just too much going on with other colours, back to black now

    The gumwalls look great (I'm sure black does too...)
