    Entirely the van drivers fault, no signal for a start. But the cyclist was going at a fair old clip a bit less speed gives more reaction time and less collision energy.

    I'd want to take a couple of minutes to check my bike over after any spill before leaping back on and riding off.

    I know who he is and I'm familiar with his work. I'd still want to check my just-crashed bike over before riding off on it!

    Please tell me you don't mean this. He was hammering down the inside of a queue of traffic like he was being chased by Satan with a boner.

    Everyone cycles on the shoulder in the States, but it isn't a bike lane. For sure the driver didn't signal, at least in the few secs before the turn, but it was generally the cycle guy's fault.
