I think that if they had got 6 points more, earlier in the session then they would have won with the bonus lap for 400.

That comment has gone way over my head.

Not to my knowledge. I just thought a glowing review in the Telegraph might encourage a few more "new cycling" types to bring their retro casquettes and cameras on sticks.

And that is a bad thing, right? My first 6 was 1977 (had to look it up - the year of the Merckx / Thurau omnium at Wembley) haven't been to the Kuipke for 20 years but happy that there's new fans coming into the sport.

I'm (half) joking. I recognise the need for new fans but the chips on my shoulders start itching when confronted with noisy southerners and youth culture.

Snap. I was there also and in Gent about that time but my first Wembley Arena was 1971, then 1972.
My first because of the Tony Gowland Debut (2nd) followed by his win the next year with Patrick Sercu.
These were held as the SKOL (lager) 6 days
    1977 - Pijnen-Sercu Are Back
Held from 16 to 21-Sep-1977 (no race in 1976)

“THROUGHOUT THIS YEAR of Jubilee we have been looking forward to our own celebration ... the 10th Anniversary of the SKOL 6. We have tried to bring together the most attractive field of indoor track specialists so far seen at Wembley and at the same time freshen the programme with a sprinkling of new professionals. Our old favourite and six times SKOL 6 winner, Patrick Sercu chooses Rene Pijnen to try for a repeat of their 1974 win and Tony Gowland with Gunter Haritz have the aggressive talents to upset their plans. But who would dare forecast the result when teams of the calibre of Allan / Clark, Peffgen / Fritz and Ritter / Frank need a London win to establish high contract fees for the coming European events?
On Monday night we have a special bonus for fans when Eddy Merckx meets Didi Thurau in a four-event match. The goal of any professional cyclist is to win one of the great road classics, Eddy has won 32! - his five Tour de France wins, four world championships and the fact that he has ridden further than any other man in one hour stamps his greatness. It will be interesting to see if his opponent on Monday night will, in the coming years, rise to the standards he has set.
Construction work on the floor of the Empire Pool prevented us from promoting SKOL 6 in 1976 - a disappointing break in continuity, but here we are back again with our effervescent cocktail of Sport and Show.1977

Only 12 in 1972, didn't start cycling properly for a few years. In 1977/78 I used to bunk off school on Wednesday for the Kew Bridge run, which Tony Gowland sometimes joined. Didn't take me long to realise that I was rubbish.
