Hey Guys.

Its been a long old year for me and along the way I managed to damage my knee. This meant I was off my bike for nearly 2 months. I'm now finding that more and more my 100mm hardtail is making my knee worse and worse. I've decided that I would like to try a full sus but with it coming up to christmas I'm on a budget. I had a bit of a look around on ebay and I found a 2014 boardman Team FS. I'll have to admit that I'd looked at upgrading to one of these before I hurt my knee so now seems like a good time to do it. I've had a look through the Ad. The bike is an ex C2W bike and has apparently been used for an 8 mile commute each day. I have taken into account the fact that it has some creaking issues and I'm hoping that these are bottom bracket related. My major worry with the bike is the chainrings. I'm not sure if it is me being stupid or if the outer chainring is quite badly worn. I've attached a link to the ad so I'm just wondering if one of you lot would be kind enough to have a look and get back to me apart what you think. Looks decent for £350, a bike new at that price is going to have worse spec! Its been used as a light commuter bike so will probably be in pretty good condition, even if it does need new chain/cassette/chainrings and a new bb/frame bearings it will probably only add £100-£150ish which still sounds like a good deal.

Make sure its not way too small/big too. But yeah i'd try it for that price.

The chainrings look used but not too worn. The teeth have different profiles to aid shifting, so some appear somewhat truncated. If you compare this picture of a brand new FSA Comet crankset, you'll see it's not so different. When the teeth are worn badly they tend to have a hooked appearance.

Be careful. If the seller has not finished the cycle 2 work scheme he doesn't own the bike so cannot legally sell it.
Ask for proof that he has made the final payment otherwise you could have it repossessed with no compensation.
  • Cheers for all the replies guys. Don't think I'm gonna go with this. I just feel that I might be jumping back in too soon. Unless something comes up extremely cheap I'm just gonna wait till after christmas, then I can reassess my finances and look into a new bike

    Cheers once again
