Hi,

I'm relatively new to the cycling scene, so is pretty inexperienced with name of some parts.

I'm wondering if it is possible to swap out Shimano Ultegra's crank arm to a carbon version?

Why? Just out of interest. You could change to a carbon crank but the Ultegra crank is great!

You can't get Shimano carbon cranks but there are other brands. Some will require chainrings and a bottom bracket too.

There are better places to spend the money though.
I'm left handed, if that matters.

A bit pointless to change out the Ultegra unless you have money to throw away. Most any crankset that will be an improvement (weight/rigidity) will be considerably more expensive, shifting may not be quite as crisp without the Shimano chainrings and for cranksets alu will be more durable. CF is great for many things but in this case there is not much to be gained.

But if you want to, and bear in mind that it's a free world and you can do what you want to as its your money and bike, then yes.

Lots of options at lots of prices available.
