As above,

I made a topic but figured I would start fresh with the correct information and links.

What it will be used for
- All trail centre trails, climbing up to the trails and doing some jumps. The place I will be going - Nevis Range, Redrock, Laggan wolf trax, Glen Livet and all the tracks behind my house. I'm lucky all this is local to me.

The bikes, I understand im going to have to comprise with not splashing out but cars is my main hobby and my RS gets all the money for now.

The sunn is a nice bike, but that claimed weight isn't possible with those components.

The Ghost and Lapierre (later especially) have poor forks.

The Anthem is a great bike for the money and would be my choice, more XC orientated but cope just fine at trail centres.

The two RR bikes I can't see properly due to the crap decathlon website not working properly in some browsers.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

The Anthem is brilliant. I wouldn't touch any of the others except maybe the Rockrider bit the Anthem is well ahead of anything else, the frame is excellent.
  • Thanks.

I like the look of the sunn.

Is 100mm travel going to be enough?
  • No chance of stretching to the 9.2 from Decathlon, don't go to the 700s, same crappy frame thats used on the base model FS. 9.1 is the better allrounder from that and the 700s from experience.

The base frame is still very good though for the cash - but obviously the 9.2 gets the NEUF VPP type frame and better parts. But with the Anthem at that price, is a steal.
  • Hmmmm so much choice.

Whats the ghost ASX 5100 like, got a look at one today and it was not too bad to be honest, rode very well.

Bear in mind I'm no expert on the trails im very amateur, I just want to learn to go a bit harder and jump etc
  • Also was looking into this Giant trance 27.5 free delivery

Just awaiting pics, fully serviced etc

The trance is a very capable bike, I've got the 2 model and love it, if you were worried about the amount of travel on the anthem then this would sort that. For that price it seems like a great buy, great frame, the epicon forks aren't bad either.

You can't judge a bike by the amount of suspension, geometry is far more important. I have had a Anthem and Trance. For xc and trail centre riding I would take the Anthem. For a light, short travel xc bike it's extremely capable.
I would go for the Camber in that link over the Trance. I found the 27.5 Trance a bit disappointing compared to the old 26" model. The Camber is excellent though.

The Anthem is astonishing for this price - while most big manufacturers can't put a frame out for this money, here you get a whole bike. With Rebas. And nice parts.
  • Thanks for all the help.

My local shop might be getting a large Stance 2015 in which was what I originally wanted.

Is 100mm travel enough for all trail centre trails and learning to do jumps, ill be honest and say I'm shit on a bike just so you know what level I'm at.

I'm fit but just learning to go on the harder routes.

100mm is plenty. Suspension travel doesn't define what a bike is capable of.
My old Anthem went off 5 foot drops, 25 foot doubles, black trails and hundreds of miles of rocky Quantock trails. It even did a couple enduro races with mid place results, not bad for a bike never intended for enduro racing.
The Anthem is definitely more trail bike than xc race bike. Its stable, well built and indestructible (trust me, I tried and it survived?
