I have a chain tug/tensioner on my cotic roadrat singlespeed - do I need to use it? can't see why I can't just move the wheel back to get the correct tension ?

so which have you got fitted?

    tugs stop the wheel moving.

tensioners apply tension to the chain. (tugs also can do this).

then sure move the wheel back if you can get rid of the slack.

BUT as this has rear facing drop outs don't shorten the chain that much that putting the chain on and off is too tight.
