Etape Pennines

Last year when I signed up for the Etape Caledonia, we were also encouraged to sign up for the Etape Pennines with the offer of a joint event discount.

Having done both events this year and with no date announced for the EP, I am now wondering if this event is going ahead next year?

  • A quick Google will give you your answer - they are taking expressions of interest for 2015.

They will need to work with the relevant authorities regarding timings of road closures, so not surprising that they haven't got it completely and fully planned out yet.
  • Etape Caledonia 2015 is full up unless you pledge to raise £350. It seems that soon both Etapes will be entry by pledge only.

Etape Pennines, £65 for 60 miles, no wonder it might not be happening next year.

Especially when not a penny of that fee was going to charity

They mostly weren't. Nobody I cycle with has done it or had any plans to. Even those who do sportives regularly

It was too difficult a course for an occasional cyclist to take on, so the closed roads wouldn't attract them. For the more experienced cyclist, well closed roads makes little difference in Weardale as it's quiet around there anyway.

The North East really does need a big closed road event but preferably something into (say) Newcastle City Centre, not out in the sticks.
