Read the headline, then read the comments attributed to weather organisations underneath!

Hard to know how Britain was braced (present tense) for a monster storm (sic) if this was the first anyone was even aware of it!

That will be around 50 yards before I give in. I would get much further on my bike.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

"The southern half of the UK will have a mild day with sunny intervals and scattered showers.

"The showers are expected to be heaviest and most frequent in south Wales and south-west England during the afternoon when they may turn thundery."

    Oh, the horror. The horror.

"However, even if this were to happen, probably on Monday night into Tuesday, it is just likely to bring heavy rain and fairly strong winds for a time, but it is extremely unlikely to bring very severe conditions across the UK.

    Now that is really scary.......

  • Wow, I've never seen the like.

Weather forecasting is tough. Getting it right everywhere nigh on impossible so you're a hostage to fortune.

What irritates me is that the Met Office do a really good job and are lambasted frequently. Yet the Express make shit up and are still in business.

Last week their forecast was for increasingly colder conditions to penetrate the Scottish hills. Wow, insightful.

And, last year, their 100 days of snow equated to, well, none.

I detest the Express. Though not quite as much as the Mail.

Is that the punchline to the joke "How many surrealists does it take to forecast the weather?"

No, Sir - I am not. :P I walked out of the house to go to Uni and watched debris go bouncing down the road...

It does seem that you have not heard of the joke "why did the surrealist cross the road?"

You old fart...I remember setting off to Uni too thinking WTF....my memory of the preceeding 12 hours being a little 'hazy' due to celebrating 'something' with a little alcohol....

My parents house in Kent was exposed to the full winds, circa 135mph yet only lost 5 tiles!

  • They appear to have ditched Vantage weather now and plumped for Exacta weather instead. Plus some quotes from the METO on occasion.

    This was an intersting read:

    http://www.ukweatherforecast.co.uk/uk-w ... edictions/

*long* term forecasts do show a colder than average Winter, with prevalent air from the East. Yay for tailwinds home :)

Might need the ice tyres a few times this Winter then.

I have. And the answer was fish, not Michael Fish. I did get your reference but gave you the benefit of doubt as to your age. I will no longer refer to you as young. I will think of something else.

Pah - I was a working man by then. I remember driving across the Isle of Sheppey seeing all the smashed caravans (and thinking that there is a God after all... )

now that looks interesting, you'll notice that London isnt shown that's because we'll be basking in glorious sunshine whilst sipping cocktails outside a trendy city bar.

  • It's literally the worst storm in weeks.

Though the Express editors will be hoping (not that it matters for writing headlines) that Britain is truly smashed.

I await something of note whilst one of my cycling compatriots is suggesting a cafe run tomorrow morning.

I shall decide when I wake up but I believe that the weather shall fall somewhere between the doomsayers and the eternal optimist.

Yeah, I stepped outside and it was pretty gusty so I bottled it. Took the Brompton on PT.

It's died down quite a bit now. :(
