Have £1600 to £2k to buy a bike. Want an endurance road bike and am leaning towards the Giant Defy Advanced 1 for £1649. Carbon frame, disc brakes (manual :() and ultegra group set. Any thoughts advice please.

It's well speced and come with good brakes. I do wonder however if you bought a Genesis equilibrium disc frame and fork weather you could doa build with the Tektro hy-rd brakes and some wheels with wide rims for the same money.

Still you are thinking disc brakes and that giant will be fine. The only thing that lets giants down sometimes is there wheelsets, but many brands suffer from that not just Giant.

I'm waiting to see what the Rose Xeon CDX brings, should be on their website (rosebikes.co.uk) by the end of Oct/start of Nov apparently.
