My bike has a deda superleggero stem which has an unusually short stack height of 36mm http://www.wiggle.co.uk/deda-superleggero-stem/

I'm not keen on the deda bars to suit this stem and wanted to change to another brand but the short stack height is causing me some concern as it appears my steerer tube has been cut to accommodate the deda stem, :-(

i use that stem on two bikes, both with Specialized s-works shallow drop bars. no need to buy deda bars.

Buy a different brand of bars. They don't need to match your stem (although you may be breaking a rule if they don't).

I thought they did with that crazy lightweight design missing the faceplate? not much surface to clamp to the bars it seems.

No need to change except of you feel the urge to have them matching. Maybe check out other Deda bars too - I really like the anatomic Newton bars which would go fine with the stem you have. If you swap then FSA and also Thomson do stems with the same low stack height.
