Despite what looks like a very impressive cast, I have a really really bad feeling in the pits of my guts that this will turn out at best to be a pale imitation of the classic original and at worst an unmitigated disaster!!

    The writer is responsible for Johnny English and Mr Bean's Holiday. I don't hold out much hope.

    Spin off films from comedy series are almost always a disappointment. But a remake? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

    Looks like i will wait til the DVD comes out, dont hold much hope for it.

    Without the awesome original cast, the show's just another sitcom. Sure it's well written and produced but ultimately the actors made it what it is.

    Also, not sure the original DA film worked. It was entertaining but it lacked something the TV and radio shows have.

    It'll be too difficult to watch the new film without constantly drawing comparisons and scrutinising it.

    None the less, I'll probably watch it out of interest.

    I think it'll be decent enough, I quite liked Johnny English and the StTrinian's films that the writer and producer have been involved with - light British comedies. Unlikely to be a classic but I was never a huge Dad's Army fan at the time, much preferred Rising Damp, Porridge and a few others.

    The beauty of the original is that people watched it over a period of time and got to empathise and genuinely like the characters. With a new film this just cannot happen.

    Look at the remakes of The Pink Panther and Sgt Bilko. They said it couldn't be done and Steve Martin proved them wrong.

    Never seen the remake. The original was quintessential John Wayne.

    There are a few films that are better as re makes, prefer the new Spiderman to the camp Toby Maguire version and Heat is much better than the original but there are no comedies that are better, close run things maybe, but none that are improvements.

    The Thomas Crown affair - one of my favourite films. Piers Brosnan/Renne Russo version much slicker than the original.

    Most Brits sitcoms made into movies 'back in the day' were poor compared to the source, even classics like the Likely Lads, Porridge and the Steptoe films, not to mention the terrible Dads Army film. It could be that by the time it was felt a film could be viable ideas were already getting thin. Having said that this looks like decent cast and writer - I'm in a tribe of one but I think Mr Beans Holiday is both a beautiful hymn to rural France and one of the finest comedies of the last 20 years, despite the Bean franchise being otherwise sh!t.

    2011 was a prequel not a remake :P

    Another is Vanilla Sky. Enjoyed it a lot* where as Apres Los Ojos felt slow and under budgeted. Penelope Cruz was great in both.

    * tend to avoid Tom Cruise whenever possible. Except for Legend and Edge of Tomorrow.

    It's a remake of a 50s B movie called Zero Hour - which was a drama, not a comedy. They've basically got the same script - but one has added jokes.

    Hadn't realised Airplane! had been a remake. Casino Royale is hugely better second time round but I'm not sure it can be classed as a remake as the Sellers version was crap and not really anything like the book. St Trinians = Gemma Arterton in school uniform = very good film!

    But the script and acting are dire. Typical of any British made "grotesque" it relies on hamming it up and lots of frantic activity.

    I really liked the new War of the Worlds. I thought it was well done and not over the top with the special effects. I recall the earlier versions, and they were good for the time, but the new one was better.


    The older I get, the better I was.
