M980 triple to single narrow wide

Looking to go 1x10 and just trying to clarify what I need up front. Looking at a 32t Race Face Narrow Wide, but does it need to sit where the middle ring did? If so how is the achieved?

yup, middle position secured with either shorter single ring bolts or normal bolts and a bashguard0

This will only work with some bashguards, some require longer bolts because they are a lot thicker than a chain ring.
Just another point. I'd be looking at other brands for the ring. The Race Face ones are a bit overpriced. They work no better than Blackspire, Superstar or Works Components Narrow Wide rings but are more expensive than all of them. I actually like the Blackspire more than the Race Face one I also own.0 -
Raceface can be had for down to £28, ignore the RRP.
You can use the bolts linked to, I prefer the KCNC as they are lighter, cost is still less than £10, or get an aluminium bash guard (try ebay, can be got cheap) if you feel that would be useful and you use the same bolts as now.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
I dont think is a way to use those ID ones as in the M980 the bolts go through in to the crank, so I think needs to be shims or bash guards really?_______________________________________________________________________________________

Ah realised no I don't need anything to space ring to middle as sat on inside it would be in right place...
So chainring and set these and job done I think...
