Putting together a community in my hometown and I'd like to get some stats to flash about. The ultimate aim is to get the local authority to take issues more seriously, specifically providing some provision for off road or shared routes along a notorious section of the A38.

Who do I request this info from, and has anyone any tips please?

It depends what you want. If you just want a quick overview of numbers / severity then take a look at crashmap.co.uk and just put in the place you are interested and toggle to show accidents involving pedal cyclists. Unfortunately it doesn't give you details unless you have a paid subscription. Alternatively, make a FoI request to the local highway authority. If the section of A38 is still trunk road that will be the Highways Agency otherwise it will be the county council. I think most local authorities will have an email address for FoI applications.
