Afternoon all

Ever since it got rid of Mr Stinks I've had an itch. Despite Tracey being probably the best bike ive ever owned, i still have that itch for a DH rig. Mr Stinks didn't really fit the bill, so ive taken the plunge and got myself a Demo.

Demo_zpsc8cac9ef.jpg

2011 Demo 2 model. Got it for £1,800, which i thought was pretty good.

Spec list

Boxxer World Cups
Fox RC4 Kashima
Renthal Fatbars
Funn Stem
Avid Code XO brakes
Zee Shifter
Saint Rear mech
Zee cranks
RW - Hope Pro2 on Mavic EX721
FW - DT Swiss on FR500
Thomson post
Spesh saddle

The frame is in good nick for a used DH bike. I am tempted to get it resprayed while its in bits, but i think that can wait till next rebuild time.

Its currently in pieces for a good clean and new bearings

Nothing worth changing at the moment really.

Cant wait to take her to Antur

Nice! And yeah - great spec sheet. I'd have a couple of those bits for my Session - we can start with the fork and the cranks please

I cant decide whether to keep the cranks or swap them with the Saints i have on Tracey

    Hmmm

Had a good look at the bearings last night. Most of them (bar the BB pivot) are toast. Luckily the seller had a bad of bearings that hadn't been used, so i only need 4 for the horst pivot. Did two last night (in the shock linkage), and will do another 4 tomorrow night.

Then a good clean and reassembly

Very nice bike. Proper good downhill bike. Unfortunately Demos take a certain riding style to get the best out of them so I have never managed to ride one fast but there's a good reason why so many racers use Demos and it's certainly not because of the price!

I'm not trying to be cheeky, but do you ride downhill anywhere other than antur?
There's loads of stuff in north wales that's closer, and upliftable.

    Antur is my favourite TBF

I'm gonna join Foels and I plan to start going to Rev too

Fair enough, I got a little bored of antur after my second or third visit, it's a little samey IMO. Foel is awesome, and so is revolution, super tech.

I didn't really think much of Antur either. It's ok but I don't like the very artificial feel of it. There's some blinding stuff in North Wales. Llangollen is the work of a mad man, so much fun. Bala is really good as well.

Spent last night doing some of the bearings

    LinkageBearings_zpsb9188e13.jpg

Nice new bearings in the S link

Spent around an hour hammering out the busted bearing races from the BB pivot. Although this pivot felt ok, when i took the rear end off to clean and check, those bearings were seized as well. Made a bit of a mess too, so the bearing seat will need some love before i reinstall new bearings

This bike has not been looked after. Pretty much every bearing was either seized, or rough as guts.

More bearings on the way from MB

I hope you got it for a good price then!
I'd love a new shape demo. Maybe when I have a job... :p

the frame is in good nick, just hasn't been maintained very well

i paid £1,800, which is a decent price given the spec list

Those linkage bearings are prone to wearing. As with all linkage bearings they only see a fraction of a full turn so once a year take it apart and turn the bearings 180 degrees so the load is on a fresher part of the bearing inner race.

Great idea. Will do that on Tracey too.

After some grinding with the Dremel, the bearing seat on the side that I had problems with seems to have accepted a new bearing without issue. Hard to tell for sure until I put the second bearing.

Maiden voyage at Antur in Friday. 3rd run in and I've gone OTB on Black Powder. Fractured radius. Have spent 2 days in hospital.

Bike fine. Anyone wanna buy a Demo?

    Nicked from Stiniog last night

Please can people keep an eye out

    IMG_20140727_204020_zps109787d6.jpg

    Distinguishing features

the wheels dont match - the front is the DT Swiss wheel that came with the bike originally, the rear is a Hope hub (in gunsmoke) laced to a Mavic EX719 rim

the fork decals are from the latest version of the Boxxer and dont match the print on the stanctions

the forks are world cups, but have been converted to coil

the brake and gear cables crossover twice as they come down the downtube

there is a small dent on the NDS bottom chain stay

the seatpost has been cut down

How was it stolen from Stiniog

It was in their lockup. At some point I imagine this became an unlockup, presumably by use of force, and the contents were removed...

cops said that a van was spotted during the day, clearly casing the place

they forced the padlocks off the lockup doors and emptied out the contents

4 hire bikes and my Demo

cops have photos of mine and a detailed description

they are, but its unclear if my bike would be included, or just the hire bikes

i am under my home insurance, but again, not sure if this situation is covered or not

Yeah I can see it being tricky on both.

Hope you find the bike, and if not hope the insurance works out some how!

what a complete sh1tter. The bike was secured so I'm guessing it should be covered under your own insurance? All these bike nicking stories make me depressed, glad I live in the arse end of France, none of that going on over here. Anyway - Good luck
