About 6 years ago, decided to try and build a carbon fibre time trial bike. Plan was to buy all bits from eBay, ideally NOS.

Here's the result:

Frame - EPX Reef Carbon Fibre
Froks - ITM Millenium Carbon
Front Wheel - Spin
Rear Wheel - Ambosio Composite
Front/Rear Mech/Freewheel - Dura Ace - 8 Speed
Cranks - Profile Design
Pedals - Aerolite
Chainrings - Cannondale
Bars - Syntace
Brakes - Campag
Brake Levers - Profile Design
Shifters - Dura Ace
Seatpost - no make
Saddle - Brooks Swift Titanium
Stem - Cinelli Alter (but currently fitted a 3T Adjustable to make it easier on my back on the Turbo Trainer.
Cables - Nokon

It hasn't been out much. It sits on the Turbo Trainer in the Garage at the moment with a pair of Gipiemme Grecal wheels. Hopefully will get out and do a few 10 or 25 milers this summer.

AlistairD, I have a question that would be HUGELY helpful if you could answer. I recently bought an EPX bike that has a frame similar to the one you built, and it needs an overhaul. My question is, since you built yours from the ground up, can you tell me if there are internal cable routings for the derailleurs and rear brake? This would of course make replacing the cables much easier than if I'd need to fish around inside the frame to find the cable exit holes. Thanks so much!

There is internal routing for the derailleurs and rear brake cables. I found it straight forward to cable this up. The bike has changed a bit since I posted these photos and must get round to taking some more...

    Good luck with the overhaul...

Alistair, thank you so much, I really appreciate it. To state the obvious, this is a bike that few people know of, let alone have familiarity with its internal construction, so finding someone like you with first hand experience is a huge help. Much obliged.

ps....I hope when you changed your bike since posting your original pics that you kept the Brooks seat, that is fantastically incongruous!

    That is fantastic :)

Are your club/ the TT organisers happy for you to ride that frame, though?

Now that's a project I like. Did you find the frame on ebay, or elsewhere?

Not tried, it's for my own fun at the moment, but I'd heard that unless it was UCI sanctioned it should be ok but I have no real idea.

Frame and most of the parts were off eBay. I've eventually found a matching rear Spin wheel so have ditched the disc.

I could not get comfortable on the Brooks in the TT position so ended up with a Romin I'm afraid but I'm still experimenting with Saddles....

Errr... Why aren't you using a TT specific saddle? Best and most comfortable way to get an open hip angle...

Getting a saddle is obviously a very personal thing, and what fits one person perfectly sometimes gives someone else discomfort. Having said that, I outfitted my EPX with an SQlab 611 Active Race and it's been extremely comfortable.
