Does a team benefit if their rider has progressed well in their ranks but after two years and out of contract gets a better offer from a larger team ?

They are out of contract so as far as I can tell, so no their previous team wouldn't as they are a free agent on the market, as in any walk of life, be it a Footballer or Project Manager can go take their trade elsewhere if they don't have a contract.

When Wiggo left Garmin during his contract then Sky paid a fee to compensate breaking the contract but cycling, probably due to its short term sponsorship and lack of team commercial revenues only seems to offer short contracts therefore a football style transfer market doesn't seem to exist.

the Bosman ruling was a football case but can't see why it would apply any differently to cycling (assuming we are talking about European teams)

I see Rohan Denis has made a switch mid contract from Garmin to BMC - no news if a transfer fee was paid but imagine JV has got something out of BMC.
