Most expensive road bike?

Why not try to make the most expensive road bike possible, just as a game.

Rules:

1. The component has to be on sale somewhere and available to buy.
2. The component has to be the cheapest price available for that component, we're not throwing money away!
3. Components are not allowed to have diamonds studded in them.

If enough people provide links it could be figured out.

I just wondered if it would end up at £20,000, £30,000, £50,000....

I got onto this because I saw a Chris King ceramic bearing front hub costing £250.

http://www.singletrackbikes.co.uk/m7b32 ... S_GB/74481

Is this gonna be the first component then, a £250 front hub?

I guess there's £1,200 front hubs?! This is why I just wonder what would the actual financial damage be.

At the end we can figure out the bike's weight... and laugh.

    Here you go. £16.25k!!!

One bike. Standard spec. Rides on the road.

    Why?

    Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.

Dunno, I just wondered what you "can" pay lol.

What if you swapped the rear hub for a Rohloff? Wouldn't it up the price? On most bikes yeah, this bike probably has £2000+ worth of rear hub/cassette/mechs.

Before this turns into another VTech-bashing thread, can i ask, genuinely, why?

The answer, BTW, is not "why not?". I am interested in why you would spend the money on this one over another top-end bike.

Nice to see you back, also. Seems like you disappeared for a while.

None of you are even close.
The most expensive bike could well be a Halfords special.
    If the wife said no.
    And it leads to divorce.

I appreciate the other answers though!
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Interesting technology, though. According to the Bikeradar review, the logging system measures 'core body temperature'. Anyone know where the thermometer goes?

Oddly enough, this is one bicycle where that saddle is not supposed to be level.......

I don't mind the look, but I think my lottery winnings would go elsewhere:

'But it’s not perfect. Pete Muir, editor of our sister magazine, Cyclist, rode it and told us: “The full carbon wheels are incredibly stiff, giving a harsh ride on all but the smoothest tarmac, while the flexible rear triangle doesn’t inspire confidence in corners and when sprinting – it feels as if the wheels might tuck under.”

So it’s the ultimate piece of automotive artwork, rather than the best bike in the world – and at £25k, it’s for collectors only.

I ordered it because I wanted to put it in my workshop.
I have no intention of ever riding it which to some will be a sin but to others who collect/appreciate things they will hopefully agree.
I like things, different things, things that I would never use but can appreciate. I collect what I can afford but sadly most of the things I want are beyond my reach. Magpie syndrome.

OK, in keeping with the OP, I think you need to explore how standard off the shelf parts can be modified with other off the shelf parts. For example:

Campagnolo Super Record EPS rear mech

    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/campagnolo-supe ... erailleur/

    plus a Berner cage

    http://shop.berner-bikes.com/drupalprod/node/71

gets very expensive. I'm sure you could swap out some of the bolts, too.

    A. Yes, this bike is for sale and you can buy.
    2. The component has to be the cheapest price available for that component, we're not throwing money away!
    A. I have 100% paid the cheapest for the component in question, retail was £25k I paid less.
    3. Components are not allowed to have diamonds studded in them.
    A. No Diamonds on this bike, it is completely stock and staying that way.

The game is you name A COMPONENT and price and we all contribute to make up an imaginary bike and we can see if we can make it really expensive

Which part of this are you having difficulties with?

Do you have to try to be this obtuse or does it come naturally? :D

Due to the fact that this is a purpose built bike, it does indeed come under the cloak of being a component.
We could add a carbon pump and titanium valve caps to bump the price up and in answer to your question, Yes.

Now for honesty, I misread the post and feel rather stupid

I will play the game properly and nominate a Dash saddle for the bike - £360

    http://www.ubyk.co.uk/dash-m4-saddle/15210

I think they do a seat post at similar money as well.

The Rohloff rear hub nominated above can't be nearly expensive enough, I can afford one  - and as Ber nard points out, you can get jiggly with the carbon cages and so on with traditional rear mechs. Let alone the jockey wheels.

I know that some of the real weight weenie bikes have cost well over £20k - serious stuff.

Ok, you can perch your bum on that on this bike, though the gold leaf sort of falls foul of the diamonds frippery rule a little.

We won't get far without pedals. Cheapskates would probably go for Speedplay Titanium Zero at £235:

    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/speedplay-zero-titanium-pedals/

Edit: If those seem a little cheap and nasty, the Nanogram versions, list price £600 but a bargain at £480 from Wiggle, ought to do the trick:

    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/speedplay-zero- ... am-pedals/

But who buys pedals without built-in power meters these days? Better get Garmin Vectors at £1350 if we want to be taken seriously:

I'd rather have a bike hanging on my wall than a lot of multi million pound paintings. So, why not. A friend of mine keeps a Ducati 851 in his living room, even starts it occasionally if he's taking it out for a ride.
