It's never time for Gatorskins ;)

Actually many people use them on here no probs, plus they are cheap compared to some. I've stuck with gp4 seasons myself with an extra layer of protection on the inside of the tyre in the shape of panaracer tyre liners.

Not had a puncture in the 3000 or so miles I've used them (the tyre liners) even though my route is puncture city.

Now I've said it I'll get one on the way home, so I hope you appreciate my advice ;)

Cheers, I'll have a look at them too but gatorskins are currently £21 a tyre on wiggle

When people talk about GP4000s what are they referring to? GP4000s II or just GP4000 ?

Also, how much should they be?

Could be either, the second version only recently came out. Dont think there's a massive difference between them really unless you're racing (it's more of a race tyre I think).

They will have some puncture protection but not a lot compared to 'proper' puncture resistant tyres like gatorskins/gp4 seasons etc etc

They are pretty expensive though you may get a good deal on the original version

thread sounds like an unlucky Crowded House song.
Really unlucky though all the same. I've the gatorskins on my roadie and so far so good after a year with them

Same thing causing puncture maybe? Embedded glass, spoke poking through?

Piece of plastic embedded in the tyre for the first two (didn't find it after first change) ...third puncture was something ripping a half cm size hole in the tyre

Without trying to offend have you checked as others have mentioned things like stuck glass in the tyre bead - Are the tyres at the correct pressure (pinch flats are very common) also check the rim as a damaged braking surface could be causing the problem.

Bought gatorskins since. Tyre pressures were fine. Found the culprit of the first two and the third just left a big tear. Bad luck I guess

  • schwalbe marathon supremes are fit and forget as I am concerned. Did 3500m last year on them with no punctures and tyres still have life left in them.

if you rub a bit of cotton wool round the inside of the tyre it should snag on anything that is likely to cause a puncture and that you may otherwise miss and stop the same thing puncturing your tyre repeatedly.

  • That is a bad day mate, hopefully you'll have more luck with the gatorskins. Had mine a few months now and no problems

Sound like the tyres are at their threshold. It is so annoying to have 3 in a day. If it's wet this can easily happen.

sure fire sign that your tyres are nearly worn out is an increase in punctures.

Tyres were the ones that came with the bike in May so wouldn't have been great

No problems since getting gatorskins... Touch wood
