British Cycling Insurance Claim Advice

Hi,
had a massive spill in the rain on Friday night. Bit of road rash on my knee, hip and elbow but nothing major.

Bike a bit worse for wear. Rear derailleur took a blow, still works. Left shifter is totally buggered and basically sheared off. It's all Ultegra 6800 so not cheap.

I've got insurance under British Cycing which I'm 99% sure will cover it, bit of policy wording below.
"We will at Our option, repair to its prior level of functionality or replace, any part, or, if beyond economic repair, replace the damaged part or all of the Bicycle with a

similar article of like kind, functionality and quality. We may use specialist suppliers for repair or replacement chosen by Us. Where the Bicycle is economical to repair
0
but the parts required are obsolete We will pay a cash settlement equivalent to the cost of the repair of the Bicycle."

Just want to check if anyone has any experience or advice in dealing with them on a claim like this to make sure I don't cock up the initial phone call. Also any idea where I can get it fixed? Is any LBS likely to be ok or will they tell me to put it in a box and send it back to Canyon in Germany?

Cheers

    Hi.

I successfully had a claim with BC insurance. Just give them a call and they will send you a form to fill in for the claim. It took a while for the money to come through and you need to take it to a local bike shop to get a repair cost and take photos of the damage I believe.

I've had a claim with them too- no problems.

If your frame is fine I wouldn't bother with a claim as 6800 is cheap as to replace and the rise in your premium won't be worth it.

Two new shifters and a new rear derailleur is about £300 worth + labour isn't it!?

Bike is at LBS getting an estimate right now anyway.

How much is premium likely to go up?

It won't go up that much, a couple of quid a month max IMO

I've claimed with them 3 times. Twice for theft and the last one was for damage (cracked frame)

My advice is make sure you send them everything they need, email it all in to them and await the confirmation email. The say they'll process it within 5 days, so start chasing after 4.5

Get the form off the website.
Get your receipts/proof of purchase sorted
Get your repair/replacement estimate from an LBS in advance
Get your ID and proof of address
Fill in the claim form with all the details

If they accept your claim you should have it repaired pretty quickly.

For my damaged frame, I got an email on Friday 4pm saying claim accepted, I went out on Monday and bought a replacement, emailed them the receipt and had the money back by the Wednesday. Can't recommend them enough

2020 Merida Reacto Disc Ltd - black on black
    2015 CAAD8 105 - very green - stripped to turbo bike
    2018 Planet X Exocet 2 - grey

    The departed:

    2017 Cervelo R3 DI2 - sold
    Boardman CX Team - sold
    Cannondale Synapse - broken
    Cube Streamer - stolen
    Boardman Road Comp - stolen

Are the shifters actually broken or just damaged? They can most likely be repaired and changing mechs is hardly rocket science.

My renewal quote went up by a couple hundred pounds, but this was with a 2K claim (I'm now on a much better policy through a broker).
