Have the Garmin Edge 705 on the road bike but looking for something different for the MTB.
Needs to upload to have the following,
GPS tracking
Heart Rate
Cadence
I also have a Samsung S2 with Strava on it so could use the phone if there's a HR & Cadence to go with it or some other app.

I've been looking to so will be following this thread closely. I've found a Topeak PanoBike system that uses Bluetooth on your phone.

Seems best value at around £85 for both sensors (hr and cadence/speed). Need to factor in phone mount too.Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.
