Broken braze on mount advice.

Not sure what broke first, but on my commute this morning I lost a tooth on my 50T chain ring and the braze on mount cracked. The crack is on the hole where one of the rivets/bolts go through which has caused the FD to go out of alignment. The bike is a 2012 Felt F5, so a carbon frame.

I guess I need to replace the braze on mount? How easy is this to do? Should I instead go for a bolt on FD? Or is the frame a gonna?

Cheers!

    Two options:

    1. Change the mount if you like.

    2. Get the frame repaired - simple as job - do a search on here or a quick Google re carbon frame repairers. Easy as.

I would be careful using a bolt on FD as the tube may not be up to it....frames are pretty highly tuned these days and the layup will be specific for the mount. If its just the mount, Felt should be able to advise whats best or even provide the fix.

Caveat: "if you like". Not "yeah do it, it'll be fine".

Its a simple fix though so go for it that first.

Had this on a Cannondale EVO, sent it back to the factory for them to fix, came back as new and didn't take too long, was done under warrantee, although bike was only 3-4 months old.

I've taken it into a LBS, who are Felt dealers, for a service and they are going to see what Felt can do for me. I've had the bike almost 2 years and done 10,000 miles on it though - so hardly none of the other parts are original. I wonder what will happen...

Band-on front mech might not fit - depends on shape and diameter of seat-tube. I wouldn't clamp anything to a frame with an open hole either- it could lead to premature failure. Best to see what Felt says or take it to a specialist repairer - replacement brackets are available.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

The LBS have done me proud and have got Felt to agree to fix the mount for me (Panagua Bikes in Bromley). Not going to have the bike for a week or so, and am getting the shop to do a service for me to make it worth their while. So a mild PITA and a little costly, but hopefully it will be as good as new when I get it back.
