Right, I think that I am getting closer to making a decision. Going to sell my Cube 26" Race LTD and get a 29er hardtail.

At the moment the Canyon CF SL are my fav. Problem is which one?

Canyon CF SL 7.9 SE £1879

Canyon CF SL 6.9 £1510.12

I've had no experience with SRAM MTB products. Have SRAM force on my road bike and I've never had any problems.

Any owners out there or any thoughts?

Thanks.

The SRAM bits are ok. The Fox Evolution forks and Avid brakes are terrible though, the brakes aren't too expensive to upgrade, the forks are.

The middle one any day. Best fork by miles.
  • Is the Fox 32 Float 29 CTD Fit Factory a bad fork as well that comes with the more SE version?

The top model is by far the best imo, the factory fox forks are better than basic SID's and the xt brakes are far superior to avids, the middle one also comes with gripshift which aren't likely likely to be to your preference and newer sram stuff is very fragile.

I can honestly say the Evo fork is balls of the highest order.

The FIT CTD is rumoured to be better but personally I would avoid Fox in preference for RS. XT brakes definitely do appeal over the avids and no to gripshifts.

I didn't even know they still made grip shifts! It's a little 1990's is it not?

What possible benefits are there to grip shifts? I'm confused.

  • Think the 7.9 SE is going to be the one. Not sure I'd get on with grip shift. Although the talk of fox being bad and rockshoc being good worries me.

Need to make the purchase soon as I am getting bored of spending my evenings looking at bikes.

I've got 4 and I still spend my evening looking at bikes

Btw - I'd be getting the top one. No competition IMHO

Forget the road bike, they're just plain boring.
What you need is a downhill bike :D
  • Oh downhill bike. I'll need to spend a good six months researching :D

No you won't. Davinci Wilson is the only choice. It's immensely good to ride, my Scalp will never feel as good again.
