  • Judging by the shape of the box I'd guess it was a Mega TR.......never took ANY hints from the thread title :)

    Smart, this one ;)

Got it built up now, ended up swapping over the brakes, rotors, bars, stem, pedals and seatpost. Here's a crappy photo, I'll take some better ones when I get a chance.

Cheers - got out for the first ride on it this morning. Seems very capable and pedals well.

And of course, I had a small off and put a lovely gouge in the forks! Oh well, these things happen!

Looks great! How tall are you for an extra large? How's the fit? I'm between 6ft and 6ft1 and I ordered an XL today, hope it works out fine with a 35mm stem.

I'm about 6ft1, fits perfectly. I stuck a 45mm stem on, as i think mine came with a 70mm, weirdly. Anyway, sizing feels spot on. You should be fine.

I'm also 6'1" with an XL Mega TR and a 35mm stem.

Still super stoked on this thing. I've ridden it three times now, and it absolutely rails corners, soaks up the hits and is really easy to get airborne. And on top of all that, it's really easy to pedal. I love this thing!

Think you might keep this for a little longer than 5 minutes then? :P

Looks spot on, if my finances don't improve over the next 6 months I'm gonna have to consider the 275 version I think!

I hope so! Seeing as I bought it new, I'm going to have to, as I'll take too much of a loss otherwise. This was kind of my way of forcing myself to keep a bike :p

To be fair, they may be reasonably priced, but you really cannot go wrong with one!

I've got a Am mega, the sizing seems smaller than other bikes. I normally ride a medium but I'm on a large on the mega

And thus they are nice problems to have  It's not like I'm skint, or will be skint, I just might not be as well as off as I thought I would 6 months ago  It's cool though, my free XTR groupset is soothing the pain 8)

I love it, I've never been somewhere with such a density of trails! There's so many, and there's rooty steep stuff, fast jumpy stuff, XC stuff. Get there if you ever get the chance, I recommend it!

The mega survived a week in scotland (just) which included runs down inners downhill tracks, glentress EWS trails, dunkeld downhill, fort bill world cup track, and many other scary steep/tech trails - a real test for the bike, and it performed flawlessly! This thing can take on some serious terrain. More than I have the balls for! Safe to say, it's looking a lot more worn in than it was before, got some fairly deep scratches and paint chips all over now, oh well!

Anyway, I spent all of last night and today stripping and servicing her, and she's looking a lot better for it now. I've covered all the seat/chainstays now, as I was getting a load of heel rub on there. I've also completely removed the chain guide, as I ran it without the guides and just left the back plate on in scotland, and only dropped the chain 2/3 times, so I'm going to see how it does without it completely for a bit.

I absolutely love this bike, I can only imagine what the Mega AM can do!

Also, I'll probably get a bit of a video from scotland up soon.

So the single ring without a guide just straight up didn't work. I modded the backplate on the original guide so it only uses the top two ISCG mounts, just so it's a bit less ugly, and i'm using a top only guide for the time being. I'm also back onto a Zee drivetrain because I was fed up of shitty SRAM 10sp. Much happier for it.

Spent yesterday evening stripping the mega for a big service. She's been knocking a bit for a while and haven't had time to sort it until now, so figured I would give some attention to a few other little niggles that need sorting.
Job 1 - change pivot bearings - done!
Job 2 - bleed brakes, this has needed doing for a while now
Job 3 - service reverb, again needed doing for a little while
Job 4 - general once over, clean and lube, new cables etc.
Job 5 - maybe a suspension service, not decided yet.

She's had a lot of abuse for a bike that's only 8 months old and certainly shows it, but has handled it all like a champ, should handle a lot more with a freshen up!

The most bits she's been in since I've owned her!D829DB2C-D2B1-40AA-B476-214E19DAA0E2.jpg

If been thinking about some upgrades for the mega - pikes, some better rims to go tubeless, but to be honest, I think I'm better off just saving for 650b stuff and upgrading it all in one go. Not much point clinging onto 26" these days, as good as the bike is. I'm working for a bike shop now so can get bits cheap, and will probably get a 650b mega TR or ariel 151.

650b is definitely the way forward, there's some awesome 26ers out there but newer bikes with better geometry and more up to date features are where it's at. Working in a bike shop is both a blessing and a curse, you get cheap bits but I've ended up spending even more are as a result and some of the deals on bikes are hard to ignore.

I'm quite tempted to change my frame as well. I couldn't change it for a 650b Mega though, I rode one and it feels exactly the same as mine.
Finding a replacement is tricky, I need a 19" minimum seat tube length and 630ish top tube and most new frames which are the right length don't have enough seat tube for me to get a saddle high enough.
I might just batter the Mega until it breaks.

Serviced the Reverb (what a faff, would've been made much easier if I had a decent vice, mind) and bled the brakes this evening. Think both were well overdue...
