wheel weight advice
I have a 2013 scott speedster
I have owned it for nearly a year but I keep getting spokes snap on my rear wheel. Im guessing this is down to my weight as I am 18 stone.
I have 24 spokes I am thinking I need to buy a stronger wheel does any one have any suggestions ? Im doing around 80 miles per week on normal roads.
Do I just need a wheel with more spokes ? or can anything be done to my existing wheel to make it stronger ? I dont want to spend a lot of money.
Im newish to cycling so any help would be great

For 18 stone I would suggest a handbuilt with 32 spokes.0

36 spokes rear would be advisable. Not sure there is anything on the market, you might have to go hand builtleft the forum March 20230

It's the starting point... if you pay a bit more you can get 105 hubs, or Ultegra hubs...
If you can afford over 200 pounds, I suggest you give a call to Harry Rowland and get a proper bespoke set

A basic build of Ryde Chrina rims on shimano 105 hubs would actually do the job but if you can afford H plus archetypes on ultegra hubs in 32F/36R then go for that, you won't regret it. You can always move the wheels onto your next bike.

Malcolm of the http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk built some wheels for my daughters racing bike and despite being crashed on numerous occasions, thrown around and generally treated badly, they haven't needed truing and are lite and very strong and cheap ish compared to a factory option.

This is good advice and go for 36H rims as you can always get lighter wheels if you get your weight down. ( I weight about 15st 7lbs). Better to ride on well built wheels you can trust.0 -
