My bike came with Bontrager Race TLR rims and R2 Hardcase tires.

Presumably the TLR on my rims means that I don't need the rim strips, just the sealant and valves, but am I able to go tubeless with the tires I have, or do I need TLR tires too?

TIA

I was looking into this yesterday as I have recently purchased a Trek Domane with Bontrager Race TLR rims and R3 tyres and was considering maybe going tubeless at some stage. I am assuming that you need to purchase specific TLR tyres and this is taken from the Bontrager website for Tubeless Ready Road R-Series tyres

TLR - Tire is engineered for use with Bontrager TLR Sealant as the final step in a worry-free, tubeless setup

So it looks like you need the specific TLR tyres. My plan is to use the tyres the bike came with and then when they need replacing look at getting some TLR tyres and giving tubeless a go.

You need tubeless rim tape and valves also.

Hmm... I'm wondering what "tubeless ready" means then and how my rims differ from non-TLR ones?
