So i picked up a cannondale trail sl3 last year and since then only bought new pedals and tyres, having trouble figuring what to upgrade next, ive got approx £400 so the more things i can upgrade the better. current specs are:

Fork: Custom RST Deuce Coil 100mm
Front Derailleur:Shimano Alivio
Rear Derailleur: Shimano Deore Shadow
Chainset: Shimano M4308
Cassette:Sunrace 11-32
Brakes: Shimano M445 160mm
Handlebars: Cannondale C3 20mm rise
Stem:Cannondale C4 1.5
Cane Creek 1.5 semi integrated
Cannondale D2 Dual Density
Maddux DC3.0
Front Hub:Formula DC20
Rear Hub:Formula DC22
Tyres: Racing Ralph
Saddle:Cannondale Halo
Seatpost:Cannondale C4

was also wondering what the benefit to switching to a 2x10/11 is apart from clearance.

thanks, dave

    umm may stretch to 450.
  • I think he means what, if anything is broken.

You'll see the greatest benifit by spending it on new forks and wheels.

If you have £400 to upgrade a new bike why didn't you just spend the money on a better bike? You would get better value for money than buying a bike and upgrading.
First thing I would say are a Rockshox Reba fork and some better wheels. You will need a new headset to change the forks because Canondale uae a 1.5" steerer and that's a very unusual size on xc forks.

If your wanting too spend 400 quid on upgrading a sl3 id be tempted too sell it on and buy a new last years sl1 at a bargain price, everythings slightly uprated and you've got a new bike

  • If it takes a tapered steerer then these are very cheap.

You'd need to get new wheels at the same time thought as your present front hub won't be compatible I don't think.

Don't worry about a 2x transmission. Would cost too much to do.
