So my 2nd Planet X freehub (http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/HSFH/planet-x-hub-freehub-body) has gone the way of the 1st one - splines eaten within 500kms by an ultegra cassette. The freehub is used on my 10 speed Shimano 50mm tubular wheel (http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/WPPXPC5050 ... 0-wheelset).

The first time this happened I swapped the freehub with a replacement Plant X one, but this time I'd like an anti bite guard freehub to prevent having to replace again in the near future. How do I tell which ones are compatible with the hub (which is a re-badged Novatec)?

That doesn't look especially bad, is it causing a problem?

Only Novatec freehubs are compatible - you can't swap makes. Are you sure your lockring is tight enough?
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

it looks like a Novatec type C free hub, which you can source from BDOP cycling with ABG. You can double check, the C type has 3 bearings inside (one is a needle bearing), while the A type has only 2.
If the axle is 15 mm, then it is a B1 type instead

DiscoBoy - it's not too bad at the moment, but it makes changing cassettes a right pain in the @rse (these are my race wheels and I need to have a range of cassettes available) - the first freehub was a lot worse that the one shown in the picture.

Monty Dog . yep, the lockring was done up as tight.

Ugo - yes it's a type C, though it's not available from BDOP; Stupid question, what's the difference between hubs C & E on the following identification scheme?

Could you smooth it off a bit with a file to make it easier?

Yes, I've done it since the photo was taken. Being made of cheese, a gentle rub does the trick.
