Having run my Marin Rocky Ridge for a couple of years I wanted something a little more relaxed, more XC orientated for my longer rides (60mile +), plus my eldest son is nearly big enough for his first 26" wheeled bike so will be handing down the Marin to him (once I've rebuilt it)

Planet X just happened to have 45% + 15% off their frames so on a whim I bought the 456 Carbon & at my next payday bought the headset & fork. I wanted an XC bike so settled on the 100mm Reba RL as I found with my Revelations I rode them most of the time at 120mm (lowest setting) as there just isn't anything around the Peaks that I ride that I feel like I need more travel on.

I'm going to replace the saddle for another Charge Spoon but it will be black with red stitching. I've already dropped the stem by 20mm since the photos but other than that I'm very happy with how it rides so far.

  • Very nice looking bike, how does a carbon ride feel on XC? I've only rode a budget steel frame XC and was led to believe carbon may feel a little fragile...been looking at "on one" lurcher + 456 for some XC and a lighter commute than my full sus.

Its an awesome bike. Very comfortable/nippy and great for knocking out the miles on :) , it doesn't feel fragile at all, I'm looking forward to some weekend night shifts to commute on it through Wharncliffe Woods :):)

The 100mm Reba's were great for xc riding but the Revelations feel so much better when the going gets a rougher, this is probably down the the extra 20mm of travel (min) though.
  • New SRAM chain fitted & XT M770 11-34t cassette fitted due to the chain jumping & the HG80 being worn.

Doing what it was designed todo
