I've just read this intriguing article about the Antarctic minke whale. It begs the question: how come the Japanese whaling fleet, in the course of its "research" specifically aimed at the minke whale, never discovered this?

It is really hard to do research on dead animals looking for their sounds. Where they do post mortems is usually a quiet place of work outside power tool use.

but at least foie gras is farming and is sustainable (not getting into the argument on cruelty), unlike whaling

can't say eating whale was a pleasure (yes I have, cultural requirement at the time)

at least with both you know what it is - plenty of times in China and Japan where it has been better not to ask.
