Tyre recommendations

Suggestions please for a 14 year old who has worn through (over 2.5 years) the tyres on his hardrock (26in). Mainly trail centre style riding, single track through forests etc.

Would it be safe to assume that Nobby Nics would be a decent choice for someone who isn't going to have the funds to change tyres dependent on the conditions, and who still weighs little enough to not put too much strain on things?

Longevity isn't too much of a concern.

(Typical trails inc. OPA llandegla, delamere forest etc)

Thanks in advance for any help!

Just stuck a couple of these on my bike to try them out, and worked really well over the long weekend in Wales - everything from blue to black trails.

I've only used Maxxis Ignitors over the past few years, in soft exception compound, and I was impressed, especially at a third of the price.
They also have them in 2.35, but I found plenty of grip with the 2.1s.

Avoid NN like the plague i say.. truly horrible tyre for all round use.

Recently been enjoying specialised Butcher up front, and purgotory on the rear both in 2.3" good grip in all conditions and role pretty well too!

Panaracer Rampage are a very good allrounder, if there's rocky, rooty stuff then an SC (soft compound) on the front also works wonders.

Racing Ralphs front and rear seem to be pretty decent all rounders, work well at trail centres, roll pretty well for XC / Flat stuff and grippy enough in the berms. The only downer is the slightly flimsier sidewall, but pick a decent line and you'll be fine, I've run mine for a good while and not had a sidewall tear *touch wood*

A decent NN will be very soft compared to the near solid tyres the Hardrock came with. You say longevity isn't a concern, but he'll be through those in no time. The Performance ORC ones will be better. Not really a fan though myself, prefer Racing Ralphs.

Should have known this would be more complicated than I expected!!

Current tyre is a Specialized Fast Trak LK Sport 26x2.0, but he'd definitely appreciate something more grippy, particularly in the wet.

I didn't realise you had to pick the tyre type AND the compound!! And then consider whether to run different ones up front too! Blimey. Is all purchasing this hard?

I've used Maxxis High Rollers for the last couple of years now... I really like them, yeah they may roll a little slower, but I love them round trail centres

Another vote for the Smorgasbord. Reasonably quick rolling but offer good grip in the mud. Cheap as chips and made by Maxxis. I'd go for the dual compound up front.
Too many bikes, not all fully built.
