DIY Bike Shop London (near Old Street)

I seem to remember there being some bike shop that allows you to do the work yourself. Maybe I imagined it, does anyone know of one, preferably near Old Street / LMNH? I basically just need to use a stand as I'm sick of trying to balance my bike on things to tweak the gears.

    Thanks. It looks quite interesting - very tempted by the wheel building course.

    Not great value for what I want at £12 / hour for a stand, but I can see how it would be very useful if you didn't have the tools.

    £30 gets you a workstand from Lidl (similar ones at similar prices on eBay). Fettle at your leisure.

    Unfortunately, it doesn't get me the space to keep it in which seems to be about £1000 /sq. ft at the moment.

    When folded they take up less space than an upright vacuum cleaner. Mine lives behind the sofa.

    The Evans nr waterloo let you use the shop floor if it's pissing with rain and you need to fix a puncture. Nice people.

    Thanks everyone for your help.

    I think after a bit of investigation that London Bike Kitchen is probably the best set up for this. I phoned Look Mum No Hands and they said if I e-mailed they might be able to let me use their workshop, but they weren't sure. So maybe that is useful info for someone. I think both of these would be most useful if you need specialist tools - rather than simply a stand like me.

    Therefore, I ended up using a combination of a broom, kitchen working surface and the back of a chair to get the job done.

    I'd be interested to know if anyone has done the wheel building course at London Bike Kitchen. It is the one thing that I consistently managed to fail when trying.
