Advice Please

Hi I'm a bit stuck and was wondering if I could get a moment of your time. I'm looking to get a new mountain bike for around the £600-700 mark but all the spec is a bit foreign to me! I ride to work everyday for the last 10 years and also go out in the forest and on the seafront on days off but nothing very extreme. I had a GT til it got stolen last year and loved it. Can you advise on these few please or do you know any better and if I am better off buying an older model or this years? thanks for your help

    Unless you're very tall the Dale SL1 will be too big as it's only available in Jumbo, the other Dale and the Avalanche have poor forks in comparison to the Zaskar. Which incidentally is a good XC bike, alternatively you could have this for £100 less.

    Thanks for the feed back its been very helpful. To be honest I need to be looking at getting it on finance which I don't think halfords and decathlon do. Do you have any more suggestions please?

    Yes get it on a credit card, then you can get any on finance!
    Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

    I don't like credit cards as they are too tempting and the apr looks the same or hirer then finance

    Including the increased cost of credit, you'll still get a better bike for less money, just cut up the card once you've bought the bike.

    Most cards are interest free on new purchases for a couple years. Buy the bike and cut up the card and set up a direct debit to pay it off.
    You won't get any great deals on bikes if you buy on finance.

    How tall are you as some of the bikes you have been enquiring about are either Large, Extra Large or "Jumbo", so unless you're 6'2" or over they will be far too big.

    Decathlon Rockrider or Boardman hardtail.
    Size depends on the bike and your proportions. I'm 6'1" and ride an extra large Mega TR but I have also had various large bikes and a couple medium bikes. All have been very similar size and fitted me very well.

    So probably a large and no bigger.

    The Cube you linked to is reasonable value at that offer price, but it's not quite as good as the Rockrider 8.1 for £100 less from decathlon. Why pay more for less, even paying interest on £550 isn't going to cost you an extra £100.
