Im going to be staying near Newcastle University for a week and have a query for anyone living there. Is it possible to rent road bikes for a week?

You could try down at The Cycle Hub

As far as I know there isn't.

The bike hub only have Giant Hybrids, better than a Switch Bike but still not really a fast road bike. I inquired last year when I needed a road bike for an event while mine was in for a repair.

There used to be a hire place on the A692 toward Consett but it's gone now.

You could try http://www.specialistcycles.co.uk/ in Durham. Failing that your best bet might be one of the smaller bike shops (Ride, Low Fell, K. B Cycles).
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.

I think M Steel Cycles in Gosforth have demo bikes to hire from time to time, might be worth a try.

    .

They don't look too bad, if it's just to get a cycling fix for a week, they'd do. Means the OP could go up to Parkhead if he was so minded.
