Bit weird. Enjoyed it in bits.

Not sure what the overarching theme was. Didn't seem like there was one.

Was also secretly hoping for a view looking at all sides of the war rather than purely UK but I guess it's about how it's changed the UK ( though a lot of the anecdotes don't really illustrate that) which is fine.
  • It would be good to have a series about WW1 which solely focused on the German side of events.

It wasn't what i expected. I thought that with Paxo there would be a little more stuffing.

No, no, no that's in 1984, years after WW1 and it's a fictional work.

Although it was an opportunity for a little light humour, my remark did have a serious side. I was hoping for a more in-depth analysis of the history of WW1 and found the first of Paxman's program a bit lacking in substance. It was interesting enough though and I'll watch the rest of them.

  • One thing I've learned through watching the programme.

Paxo couldn't stop a pig in a ginnell. Has he had rickets or sommat?

Yes, that's pretty much what Fritz would have said. He repeated it 27 years later
