It seems to me that Alonso may know what he's doing.

He seems to be a genuine cycling fan.

    Long before all of this.
  • A bit behind here, so it's a new team with new sponsors.

Does he go straight in as a top WT team or Pro Continental ?
All the gear, but no idea...
  • In Italy there are mixed opinions about Bettini as a manager... he didn't do well in his previous job, although some argue he didn't have Bettini in his team...

No guarantee - but he has a year to work on it to get the immediate wave through to ProTour just like Sky and GreenEDGE did, if he does want to try for it

Alain Prost was a keen cyclist and Nigel Mansell etc.

This is looking promising, meeting with the ASO mid January.
  • As inrng points out though, it won't be "a new direction for cycling" if he's just going to hire all the old guard in key positions

Good point, Im guessing they want credibility (if thats the right word) up front so they get in the door.

He's Spanish and he comes from a sport where exploring the edge of the rules to gain the competitive edge is normal - so why would we expect him to be looking for 'a new direction in cycling' ?

Pretty excited to see what will come of Alonso's team. Wonder if Ferrari will be the team doctor...
