What fabric for my bike cloth?

Obviously it's important to keep the bike clean, and a nicely buffed surface keeps the air resistance low for maximum speed.

So I'm wondering, what sort of cloth should I use to give it that final sheen?

I'm thinking cotton, lint-free, obviously - but maybe microfibre would be good.

Thing is, my bike has a carbon frame, and with man-made fibres, would static electricity be a problem? If I used it on my helmet as well, would there be a risk of electric shock or fire when I sit on the bike, especially in the wet? I've used other things on my helmet in the past, and that's caused quite a shock, so I need to be careful.

    Wet wipes.

since they are wet they will also douse any potential fire in your helmet

I knows but FFS what with this and what insulation tape! Oh and I know the air one was a piss take

seriously thinking of going back to basics next year and just enjoy riding my bike.......
  • I got a roll of pure blue silk from a shop in Saville Row... I think it was 250 pounds for 3 x 1 metres of it, which should last me a couple of months... it's wonderful and it feels lush in my hands as I remove the crud and grease from the jockey wheels... it's so thin I can use it to wipe the dirt between the headset bearing and crown too.
Try it out, it's really good!

    Bada-zing!

I've found having a wife is good for keeping the bikes clean. Just whip 'em and they work a bit faster!
