Albert won. It was close though:
Still, only his second race with the pros, and 2nd again.
Not a bad list of names to beat:
3. Rob Peeters op 29"
4. Sven Nys 49"
5. Laurens Sweeck 1'03"
6. Philipp Walsleben (Dui) z.t.
7. Martin Bina (Tsj) 1'05"
8. Bart Aernouts z.t.
9. Dieter Vanthourenhout 1'27"
10. Francis Mourey (Fra) 1'31"0 -
BTW, I was a bit surprised to read Mathieu has signed for 4 (!) years with BKCP, starting from this January. Like Niels Albert he might get to do races such as the Tour d'Alsace and Tour of Belgium, but that's a bit of a restrictive road race programme considering his potential on the road as well as cross.0

Wow that does seem odd. I guess his heart lies in cyclo-cross?Contador is the Greatest0

Pouildor on Mathieu: 'There are no similarities between him and me, his cycling has nothing to do with my era. He is a lot more Van der Poel than Pouildor, but, as a rider, he doesnt have much of me. He thinks only of winning and he climbs better than me. For the moment, he is much better than I was at his age'.
And in reference to his long contract: Adri Van der Poel says: 'it really isnt necessary to be on the road at 20 years. We try and advance little by little, to watch out not to do things too quickly'. He goes on to say this which I wont translate as dont quite understand it:
'Tout en se mefiant de la surmediatisation du cyclo-cross en Belgique, ce mirior aux alouettes : << Parfios, c'est un peu trop. Mais mes gamins sont assez intelligents pour ne pas tomber dans le piege. Ils font le metier, voila tout. >>'Contador is the Greatest0 -
Are you starting to warm to cross Frenchie? I think a bike radar trip to Belgium to watch a race live and take in the atmosphere may help. Would also break up the boredom of the off season...0

It's how smooth he is through the berms on a bike with skinn tyres and no suspension that gets me. He's crazy quick on the run up too.
As to the BR Cross trip, I'll be living in Belgium from Late Feb, so maybe a bit late for the top races but should still be able to see something and put a couple of people up. If not, next season"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Almost crashed into the photographers after the finish. In post-race interview he mentioned it affected his sprint, but not sure about that looking at the highlights

Protecting his development is one thing, but in 4 years time he'll be 23 and should be getting kinda bored with the Tour d'Alsace0 -

Long term investment by the team though, he won't be earning top money, making him attractive to bigger teams looking for a bargain who have to buy out the remainder of the contract, which guarantees his current outfit a return on investment."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Interesting to see Stybar come in 8th on Saturday's race at Essen. Didn't Lefevere make comments a while back about not wanting Cavendish on the track?0

Lets be honest, really Lefevere has no problem with Cav on the track as long as he's wearing OPQS kit and riding Spesh
What he does have a problem with is the prospect of Cav popping up in a Track World Cup, riding a Pina and wearing a Sky skinsuit0 -
And what about this news - GB to host a world cup next season
