Hi guys, I'm new to road biking and wanted some help on which bike would be a better deal for me to get. Here are the bikes Scott CR1 http://rideawaybicycles.com/product/13s ... 0732-1.htm and the Supersix Evo 5
http://www.cannondale.com/catalog/produ ... egory/916/0 -
Scott are good, but there's enormous competiton at that price bracket. I'm a big fan of Canyon bikes (German), but Trek and Specialized also produce such volumes of bikes that their prices can be hard to beat. I gaze at http://www.roadbikeguide.co.uk/ to check what's available in the price range or (weight range) that I'm looking for.Getting slower as I get older, but getting faster the more I cycle.0

Hi mate
You've picked a good bunch. What sort of riding do you do/ what sort of riding do you plan to do with it?
If you have to have a rack, then go for the Giant although I'd probably prefer the Felt or Bianchi to be honest.
Coming down to the Felt and Bianchi, I'd be tilted towards the Felt, better groupset, cheaper...
If I were living in a hilly area and starting out in cycling though, the Bianchi might just get the edge because of the triple groupset(more gears) which would make climbing a bit easier although the Felt does have easy enough gearing so it would want to be serious hills:)
I hope this helps in some way, get back to me with more detail and I'll be able to help you out a bit more0 -
Please think of John Bishop every time you ride it!“Training is like fighting with a gorilla. You don’t stop when you’re tired. You stop when the gorilla is tired.”0

I currently ride a 2010 Giant TCR Advanced 3, near enough stock bar the addition of a Dura Ace c24 wheelset. It's gotten too small for me now, bought when I was 17, 20 now!
I'm looking at spending around £2k on a new bike, and swapping over the wheelsets and selling the TCR with the worse wheelset.
Currently looking at:
http://www.wheelbase.co.uk/brands/cervelo-bikes/cervelo-r3-105-2014/
http://www.evanscycles.com/products/bmc/teammachine-slr02-105-2014-road-bike-ec053866
Any other good choices? I want something a bit exotic! I ride about 100 miles a week recreationally at average 18mph or so, may use it for racing in the future, am a 65kg rider.0 -

I'd go for the Cervélo out of those two.
What about:

Or alternatively, buy a new frame and swap all your components over to it and selling your Giant frame, altough I would want to have a buyer for the frame lined up before buying a new one0 -
Hi guys,
First post so bear with me.
Purchasing my first 'proper' bike this year. Going to be used for 5mile EW commute, riding to gym (5 miles) and the occasional intense fitness ride.
Now I'm stuck with buying from halfords as I have a lot of vouchers to use, I'm ok with that but I have heard some of the stories.....
I'm not sure what to go for, a road bike and convert to flatbar or a decent hybrid.
I've got £400 of vouchers and thinking of a budget £400-600.
Thoughts?0 -

Thanks for the advice, I'm stuck between a road or hybrid as my choice.....
It's probably going to be either a TDF/Virtuoso or a Boardman hybrid.
I suppose I could go for the road bike and add on some upgrades with the spare cash.0 -
I'd stay away from a hybrid as I find them alot less comfortable & alot more hard work to ride along the road than a road bike but that is just mine opinion.

This seems a good buy if you want a road bike.0 -
Given recent weather, ANYTHING that will take mudguards is surely a must if have only one bike!d.j.

Looking a new bike for the summer. Currently riding a felt z80 56cm but have never had a proper bike fit. I am just about 6 foot. Had given myself a budget of £2500. I obviously want to get the best deal for my money, so I have been looking at 2012 and 2013 models as they have better reductions in price. What do you think of the 2 attached bikes, they are over budget though0 -
Hi Folks
This is my first post so not sure what to put. I currently ride a Triban 3 but am looking to buy a bike for long term. Want to be comfortable on a bike. Currently between a Giant TCR 0 2013 would prefer Defy though & a Trek Madone 4.9 Compact 2013(first choice due to comfort & age 47. Not sure if overdoing it but both are at a excellent price as was going to go for the Planet X Pro Shimano Ultegra. Also are Ultegra DI2 easy or hard to maintain. Hope somebody can help. Many thanks. Or if anybody has any other recommendations? Cheers0 -
Ilav84, mate the Cervelo is just beautiful but you would be a fool to go for anything but a Canyon. With your buget you can get the best groupset I've ever ridden and a frame that is that stupid kind of light! Also those wheels are bloody fast. My friend has a canyon and it's just perfect. https://www.canyon.com/_en/roadbikes/bike.html?b=3243
Or you can go aero with the Aeroad but the compromise of wheels isn't worth it.
My brother has a Rose and he got that customised with the new Ultegra (best ever). German online bikes are the way to go in my opinion0 -
Is the Felt F75 virtually identical to the CAAD10?0

What model of Canyon? I'm based in N.Ireland and I haven't seen anyone stock them. I WANT THAT CERVELO!! It's beautiful0 -
Hi All,
I'm new to cycling and I have been riding my friends old Carrera before deciding to purchase my own to see if I will enjoy it, and I do. I was only going cycle to work which is 9.2 miles away, but now I've started going out on weekends to ride as well, so I have decided to purchase my own bike.
I did order a Ribble Evo Pro Carbon Naked only to receive an email couple of days later saying
"Good afternoon,
Thank you for your Ribble order.
Unfortunately we have just been advised, that the frame you have selected is currently unavailable.
Are next delivery is due in April, however we can change this to the Red Evo or alternatively we can amend the order.
Please let me know what you would like to be done."
I do not want the Red Evo, but I do like the look of the Ribble Gran Fondo. http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/bbd/road- ... BRC&bike=1
I wanted peoples opinion if this is a good bike, or as I got a second chance now to cancel my order, should I look elsewhere?
Any help appreciated.

Do I go canyon for sheer value? £1900 for CF SL with Ultegra? Or SLX with ultegra from the outlet for £2000 ish
Or

Any advice or recommendations on which bike to purchase is appreciated! Currently I have a basic specialized allez model, probably 07 or 08, my Dad purchased off craigslist several years ago when he first got into biking. I've been riding it for about 6 months now and am interested in upgrading.
I'm mainly doing solo rides on the weekend of around ~60 miles or so. Also, I would like to do the occasional century/group ride etc. I'm going to check out the LBS and see what they have available this weekend. I've been looking on CL and found a few bikes within my price range (looking to keep it under $2000). Any thoughts on which of these would be the best deal? I've read some good reviews on the cannondale supersix but I think the price could be a little high.

Hi mate,
Generally, I'd steer away from 2nd bike at that price, they've no guarantee and there's always a risk buying them etc, but I would definitely steer away from that Raleigh, you don't want to get involved with tubular wheels, trust me.
Shop around and see what offers are available, you can get a more than competent bike with that money.
I wouldn't be in a rush to change the bike do, your Spesh is fine and will see you through the longest of rides, giving you time to pick whats right for you.
Hope this helps,
Cormac0 -

Where did you see it at that price?
FWIW, I'm looking at a similar budget, and the two options I'd found (so far) are:
Canyon Roadlite 6 (aluminium)
http://www.canyon.com/_en/roadbikes/bik ... ab-reiter2
or the planet-x carbon bike:
http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/CBPXSLPULT ... -road-bike
What are people's thoughts on the above two? Not particularly fussed about carbon, and like the look of the canyon, but is the planet-x much better value (ultegra vs 105 too)?
The canyon also comes in an SRAM version (full SRAM Apex), how does this compare with the 105?0 -

I think Canyon only sell direct, online (which allegedly keeps prices down), so have a look on their website! I think shipping is usually ~50E
EDIT: messed up the quoting bit.0 -
Hi all. Another newbie 'which bike' post for you all.
I have decided to use the Cycle to Work scheme to purchase a road bike. However I am totally clueless on what would be a good beginner bike within my budget of £500. I shall be using it to commute to work (7 miles) and longer rides at weekends.
I have read that Specialized Allez or Giant Defy 5 would be good entry level bikes, would they? There is also a Marin argenta 2013 in my local shop for £469?
http://www.bikesheduk.com/bikes/road-bi ... genta-2013
Then again would purchasing any of these from the likes of Ebay prove cheaper than the C2W scheme?
Thanks for any advice.0 -
Felt z6 is a good choice for a bike with carbon frame and a comfortable bike. alternatives??0
