Years ago I gave my eldest brother an old bike of mine which he rarely used.

So yesterday he asked if I wanted it back and not wanting a good bike go to waste I picked it up.

I forgot what a little beauty it was!

Now I have no idea what the heck to do with it. Raleigh M-Trax 6000r in case you're wondering (that picture shamelessly stolen from EBay btw). 501 frame and a Shimano 300ex groupset, it's really rather lovely.

You could try riding it - that's what I'd do!

Older steel bikes just look right don't they :-) I have a perfectly good steel tourer with a modern style compact frame, keep thinking I'd like to replace it with something more classical looking.

All it needs is a chain clean, a minor reindex and the tyres pumping up. Oh, and a fettle on the rear brakes.

If there is the option, just switch the dt shifter to friction mode. Voila, no crappy indexing to worry about and a nicer feel to the shift.

I have two already! (Tricross for the spiked tyres, and the Felt F65X for the discs) both have mudguards fitted

I may put it up for sale...

My immediate thought also. Have just re-inherited my dad's 1980s BSA - originally bought around the time I started riding more than up and down the garden, then became 'mine' when I started riding regularly in my late teens. Dropped it for something with new-fangled STI in 1997 (which I still ride) and now the folks are moving house, clearing out the garage, and skipping it would have been unthinkable. I never really got the hang of N+1.
