I think they were pleased with how he was going in Canada riding for Froome before he crashed out. I doubt there are many better options, would Fenn, Dowsett or Rowe offer much on a circuit like this? Maybe they'll try to save JTL in the first half so that he can help out on the lumpier bit. The likes of Stannard, Cav and Thomas can do the early work leaving Edmonson, Wiggo, JTL and Cummings for the hills. What's wrong with Kennaugh at the moment?

Kennaugh ended his season early to sort out a heel problem.

Shame, he could have been useful on this course.

Who else got dropped from the long list? There were 12 names and 8 can ride - Dowsett, Fenn and Rowe have missed out.

I'm going to put my money where my mouth is and have a few quid each way on Jan 'no d' Bakelants.
I've also been tipping a Colombian World Champ all year so I'll have a little action on Uran on the nose.

Costa maybe but no support, Martin also lacks support and would have to hold on from the top of the final climb as I can't see him winning a sprint. Gesink is in form but I'm tempted by Bakelandts each way at those odds. No Henao? Not surprising after the Vuelta I suppose.

That 16% bit with 5 km to go will make it interesting. 5km is a long time to hold on if there is any team work going on, but as this is the worlds I'm going to discount that possibility.

yeah nobody has ever controlled the worlds so it comes down to a sprint

World Championships on BBC, red button from 13.30pm today
Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom
  • Specialized Lululemon win the women's TTT 1 minute 10 seconds quicker than Rabobank and with an average speed of 50kph.

Men's TTT is now underway from Montecatini Terme (home of spas full of Russian mafia wives and conference hotels) to Firenze.

Judging by Sporza's coverage only OPQS is taking part.

I'm supposed to be hemming curtains... Let's see which ends up being the most boring option!

Well done to the UCI for organising absolutely no live coverage of the women's event. Wouldn't have taken much more effort to give equal exposure during the Worlds.

Who's the commentator on the BBC? He's just described Cancellara as a "dark horse"...

It was dreadful last year too. Just a few fixed cameras at various points on the course.

Don't know about the BBC, I'm watching on Sporza, where to be fair Michel, Renaat and Jose tried to generate some excitement for the women's event even though they weren't given much to work with.

  • Commentary on bbc slating the gps times but not recognising a minus means faster.
  • This BBC chap really is an idiot - he's been completely failing to interpret the GPS time checks, every gap has actually been the exact opposite of his interpretation.

Edit: Actually realised it sounds like Boardman, please tell me he isn't being this clueless?

With GBs Katie Colclough. Well done! I see she is also down for the RR, with Lizzie Armitstead, Nikki Harris and Lucy Garner.

Seems the Wiggle GB girls are only doing the TTT, then, I presume, heading off to do the British Track Nationals. And with Emma Pooley focussing on her PhD, Colclough doing the TTT and RR, Armitstead doing the RR, GB have no representative in the ladies iTT? Seems a bit of a poor show. I suppose unless you've been targeting the TT you would struggle at worlds? Shame not to have our national champion there, or give a youngster some experience.

I asked MM junior to check ITV4 and let me know if ToB was on. 'Spartacus' he says. I'm confused. Put on BBC red button, to see Spartacus crossing the line.

Edit - realised this is jibberish if you can't see UK TV shedules. Spartacus (swords & sandles) was on ITV4, against Spartacus (cyclist) in the TT on BBC red button.
