Anyone know where I can get a steel self extracting crank screw for square taper? They all seem to have aluminium extractors on steel bolts; I'd prefer a steel extractor too...

  • I've never seen a steel version but I still wouldn't rely on the self-extractor setups. Most crankarms are on so tight I would want the extra thread length available from a proper extractor so as not to strip the threads. There are just too many stripped cranks by using proper extractors not screwed in all the way and the self-extractor types are even less reliable.

Mm I see what you mean. I'm not that sure I could get enough torque on it with a multitool to refit it at the airport anyway.

It'll have to be the pedals then.

  • Yes, better to just remove the pedals, much easier. 8)
