UPDATE BEFORE YOU READ POST - TNT STEPPED UP AND SORTED AND PAID OUT COMPENSATION SO DID DEMONSTRATE GOOD CUSTOMER CARE TO BE FAIR TO THEM. ENDED UP AN OK SITUATION IN THE END.

BE WARNED - DO NOT use a company called Paisley Freight or TNT to transport bikes.
If you sell a bike and need to post it use an alternative.

Just had my Ridley X-Fire returned to me as they described it as 'damaged in transit'

Snapped handlebars
Smashed front left shifter
Bent seat rails
Snapped seat post
Cracked chain stays
Broken derailleur hanger

Bear in ind this was professionally boxed up.

Use someone else, just flagging it in case anyone else is looking to send a bike by post.

Madness, well done for the warning

I'm sure they deliver everything like that, or perhaps this is just a one off and we don't know the full circumstances. We don't know that TNT or Paisley freight whoever it was has been contacted to sort it out i.e. pay compensation.

I'm sure even the likes of Parcelforce have damaged a delivery.

    So an update -

Paisley Freight not answering phone or emails? The one clinical email I had first thing this morning said 'we are really sorry for your situation but as per our T&C's we wont be pursuing a claim'

TNT - wont speak to me as I am not the account holder EVEN THOUGH they promised me a call back today with an update on the situation!!

(I have the UK MD's name via Linkedin so will be making contact directly!)

I totally get that things get 'damaged in transit' and by that I would expect say a gash to the packaging or even 'slight' damage to the goods.........what I wouldn't expect and cant accept is that the contents of this box has been crushed!!

This is absolute negligence as there has been absolutely no duty of care so that's why I am so p1ssed off......Im sure you can all appreciate!

The bike is essentially snapped and to snap a carbon fibre cyclo-cross bike takes some force.......this has not just 'been dropped'.

Watch this space as I will be pursuing this to the absolute end.

Keep us posted with how this one works out.

What's pictured there is beyond simple 'handling' damage.

How was the bike insured, and what in their T&C's negates that insurance?

Beyond the insurance question, are there routes that could be based on 'duty of care'? Or the evidenced lack of it...
How would I write my own epitaph? With a crayon - I'm not allowed anything I can sharpen to a sustainable point.

Disclaimer: Opinions expressed herein are worth exactly what you paid for them.
  • but did you insure it for the full value of the bike?

I've had stuff break in the post with city link, parcelforce and UPD but as I paid for insurance there was no issues.

Some couriers state in their t&c's that they won't carry cycles or the insurance doesn't cover cycles.
  • What did they do? Back the bloody delivery wagon over it?

Heres a wee taste of the damage which now includes a twisted frame as LBS checked it properly today.

Sorry thought I had said it wasn't insured but my point is that thus is WAY BEYOND what anyone would accept as 'normal damaged in transit'

You do have a couple of options though. Services fall under the Supply of Goods and Services Act, very similar to the Sale of goods act, but for services onviously.
    Read this (about halfway down)
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shoppi ... e#services

Plus you may make a claim online at www.moneyclaim.gov.uk and let the court decide whether or not the courier is liable despite their exclusion of liability -the court may find such exclusion unreasonable and unenforceable, on the other hand, it may not.

Shame it wasn't insured, good luck though as that is totally unacceptable, makes you wonder what they did to cause that level of damage. With regards to the rear mech/hanger though, I know it's only a tiny tiny amount of the damage but did you not remove that at all before sending it? Whenever I bag or box up my bikes, even if I'm taking them with me myself somewhere it's straight off and tied inside the stays out of harms way.

Anyway, I blame Wiggle, they seem to be behind most things. My theory is they organised it getting smashed up in the hope you'd buy another from them, about time someone told Watchdog about them…

Progress and credit where credits due.

After many emails to and from the MD and Ops Director, TNT making significant compensation payment after admitting full liability and responsibility and have to say dealt with it efficiently.

Have to say after a slow start TNT really stepped up to resolve this matter.

Actually a good example of customer care and listening to issues and resolving them.

Well done TNT on this occasion.
