After only 12 km, Tony Martin out on his own has a 3 min lead.
Maybe he's having a day of practice for the WC TT?

I think he did this last year in the Vuelta too.

The Vuelta left Galicia yesterday - goodbye lush green landscapes and windy roads, hello dry empty plains and dead straight dual carriageways

Seems to me, Martin fairly frequently does this, in one-day races too, and always to no avail.
After a maximum of about 7-20 at around 50 km, Martin's lead has gradually since been reducing and at about 75 km, it was down to 5-40.

Can't believe how poor international tv coverage is. I haven't seen a single stage whereas with the TdF and Giro I watched every minute. Heartbroken. If the Vuelta wants to step up into Tour and Giro qudos they have to completely review their media strategy. Gutted here, its like the race doesn't exist.

Surely its not the organiser but the tv channels? ITV4 and Eurosport have got the rights, but ITV only shows highlights and it seems only to be on ES2, which means no one (i.e me) can watch it on Sky Go.

By the way who is the 'TSP' quoted in your signature?

It sure is. I was very upset the degree and extent of stick poor old Froome got in the Tour, scandalous so when I read that article I thought 'there's a poke in the eye if ever I saw one'. Well done Froome.

Now come on Sky, get your act together in the Vuelta.

Where are you? The Vuelta gets ITV4 highlights here, which is more than the Giro has ever got.

  • This is an insane effort from Tony, I was expecting him to just pack it up and fall back into the pack about 10-20k ago.

Impressive legs ... shame his head didn't match them ... WTF did he keep looking back for?

Nice job by Fabu to stick one to the immediate competition ...

Oh what a huge shame for cycling fans globally. If they had any class they wouldn`t have taken him.

Anyway Big Tone can sit back and know he is the only one in the peloton that can do a solo ride like that then cap it off with with a 20k TT a bloc. Pure heavyweight.

What are you talking about? Almost keeping the peloton off with such a small margin, after a long solo effort is incredible; nothing wrong with his head.

Actually I am relieved. For a minute I believed that we were going to witness the impossible. Thank god Spartacus still respects the laws of nature.

Gutted for Martin but it would have been imbarrassing if he hadn't been caught.

You know the selection of decent sprinters is poor when Mørkøv wins the mass sprint. But very happy for the man. You can only beat the riders who are on the startlist. And he got to show that perfect national jersey of his as well.

    Yay!

If he doesn't look back a minimum of 4 times in the last KM he wins ... So kind of his own fault ...
