Not sure if anyone has been following, but a couple good days for the Yates brothers.

Yesterday's first mountain stage was won by Spain's Ruben Fernandez, with Adam Yates coming in 3rd on the finish on the Madeleine. Leaving the GC likes this:

1 Ruben Fernandez (Spa) Spain 3:02:23
2 Patrick Konrad (Aut) Austria 0:01:38
3 Adam Yates (GBr) Great Britain 0:01:42
4 Heiner Rodrigo Parra Bustamente (Col) Colombia 0:01:44
5 Davide Formolo (Ita) Italy
6 Gavin Mannion (USA) United States 0:01:46
7 Oskar Svendsen (Nor) Norway 0:01:53
8 Merhawi Kudus Ghebremedhin (Eri) Eritrea
9 Bakhtiyar Kozhatayev (Kaz) Kazakhstan 0:01:59
10 Taylor Eisenhart (USA) United States

Then Simon Yates won today's hilly/minor mountain stage, with Adam coming in 2nd.

The brothers, as Cycling Weekly earlier reported, are hoping to seal their moves up to the WorldTour with performances at the eight-day race, which is considered the amateur Tour de France.

World points champion and 2011 Avenir stage winner Simon has been strongly linked with a move to Sky next season while Adam, who has spent the season riding in France for the CC Etupes amateur team, underwent testing with the FDJ team in June with a view to a possible move in 2014 or 2015.

Really hard to find any highlights this year. Just a 3 minute video each night, which doesn't show much.

Ruben Fernandez is not a name that I know. Oskar Svendsen who got 7th yesterday is interesting, because he reportedly has a HUGE VO2 Max.

High VO2 runs in the blood over there.

I`ve only been watching the 3mins but they are rubbish. If I find more than that I`ll post up.

Really wish we could be seeing more than the daily 3 min videos. Sounds like great racing so far

Yes, and Mollema, Menchov, Fignon, Indurain, Zoetemelk and Gimondi.
It's more interesting to see who didn't make it after winning the Tour de l'Avenir. Calzati? Iker Flores? What could have been :)

Simon Yates makes it two wins in a row.

Not sure if GC has changed. Sounded a hectic stage.

I think this is the point where we make wild predictions as to what the Yates twins might achieve so that in years to come we can criticise them for failing to meet our ridiculous expectations.

They're probably the only threat to Total Sagan Domination.

No change in top three 1. Ruben Fernandez, 2. Adam Yates 3. Patrick Konrad,

except Konrad has closed in by about 20 secs, meaning Yates is still at 1-03 but Konrad now at about 1-10 (yesterday was at 1-30).

    All over.

Adam Yates 3rd (two from lead group held on) on the final MTF.

    Classement général final :
    1 Fernandez (Espagne)
    2 A. Yates (Grande-Bretagne) à 55''
    3 Konrad (Autriche)
    4 Kozhatayev (Kazakhstan)
    5 Svendsen (Norvège)
    6 Formolo (Italie)
    7 Parra (Colombie)
    8 Mannion (Etats-Unis)
    9 Skujins (Lettonie)
    10 S. Yates (Grande-Bretagne)

Must admit I was not expecting a 2nd place overall from Adam Yates. Top 10 maybe, but not 2nd.

    Or better urine testing perhaps

    can of worms right there.
  • Hope this Fernandez turns out to be another attacking firecracker like most of these Spanish climbers.
